About Vaporetto Line 1

Line 1 is the most used vaporetto line in Venice. It travels down the Grand Canal while stopping at most water bus stops along the way.

Most visitors to Venice use this line to reach the Rialto Bridge, St Mark’s Square and other attractions. As such, it’s a nice introduction to the Grand Canal and to Venice itself.

It’s worth taking for a first time in Venice trip along the Grand Canal to see the beautiful Venetian palaces, but it does tend to get very busy and it’s quite slow (stopping at more or less every vaporetto stop). Line 2 is quicker but has fewer Grand Canal stops.

This line begins at Piazzale Roma and ends in Lido di Venezia (taking about an hour). Line 1 then does the reverse from Lido to Piazzale Roma.

Below you can download the route 1 timetable in PDF format and view the interactive waterbus map.
