Acqua Alta Bookshop

Described as the “the most beautiful bookshop in the world”, it certainly is one of the most unusual and a fun place to visit for book (and cat) lovers.

The Libreria Acqua Alta (high water bookshop) has a rather unique way of protecting its many thousands of volumes from Venice’s high water events; the books are placed in bins, bathtubs, a wheelbarrow and even a gondola. There’s also a canal viewing point reached by a staircase of books.

The bookshop mostly stocks Italian titles but also a has a number in English. It can get busy so be patient – or visit early or late.
