Gondola Rides & Trips
Venice, Italy
Taking a trip in a Gondola – one of the “must do” things in Venice
Venice Gondola Information
What Does a Gondola cost?
A 30-40 minute daytime trip in a gondola with a maximum of 6 people is €90.00
A 30-40 minute evening gondola ride (from 7pm to 8am) with a maximum of 6 people per gondola is €110.
When using a gondola, always set the price and what you want with the gondalier beforehand.
You can take a longer trip – discuss the price with your gondalier.
Where Should I Get a Gondola From and To?
Given that there are so many gondolas in Venice, the best option is to find an area you like – maybe the Bridge of Sighs, maybe a quiet canal somewhere – and find a gondola there. Gondolas can be found all over Venice

Booking a Gondola & Alternatives
Do I Need To Book A Gondola?
No, absolutely not. Although there are shared and other gondola trips bookable (see below), you do not need to book one. Just turn up where a gondola and gondalier is and ask!
Is There A Cheap Gondola Option?
A shared gondola is cheapest, but if you just want to cross a canal on one we list the €2 crossings below.
Public Transport
Be aware that the gondola traghetto (the €2 crossings) is a functional public transport system for Venetians and not a tourist attraction. If there are lots of people with shopping bags or going to and from work, it might be better to try another crossing or come back another time.
Gondola Considerations
You will find gondolas for hire all over Venice. The type of trip you’d like will depend on the location you get your get your gondola.
Generally, around the Grand Canal, it will be busy – often with gondalas and with other water traffic.
For a calmer and more relaxed gondola trip, look around the smaller canals in other areas of Venice where you’re likely to have a more immersive Venetian gondola ride.
Should you pre-book a gondola ride? Only if you want to take advantage of the offers listed below. Otherwise, just find an area you like for a gondola ride and talk to the gondolier.
Gondola Traghetto
If you would like to experience a gondola ride but don’t wish to spend 40 minutes in one, you can always take the gondola traghetto (gondola ferry).
This is a short trip over a canal. The traghetto is rowed by two gondaliers and it will cost you around €2.00.
There are various places in Venice where you can do this, the most popular ones are listed below.
Locals often stand on these gondolas, but there’s nothing wrong with sitting!
