Gardens used for one of the major art, cinema, theatre, dance, music and architecture events in the world, the Venice Biennale

About the Biennale & Gardens

venice-biennale-exhibition

The Venice Giardini or Giardini della Biennale is an area of parkland which hosts the Venice Biennale Art Festival, a major part of the city’s cultural Biennale.

The gardens were created by Napoleon Bonaparte who drained an area of marshland in order to create a public garden on the banks of the Bacino di San Marco. They contain 30 permanent pavilions used for the Biennale. Each pavilion is allocated to a particular nation and displays works of art by its nationals during the event.

The Venice Biennale has been for over 120 years one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Established in 1895, the Biennale has an attendance today of over 500,000 visitors at the art exhibition.

The gardens are a great place to spend some time relaxing and have beautiful views over the lagoon.
