History
Founded in the 9th century and rebuilt in 1225 with art by Palma the Younger, Veronese, Schiavone and more.
The church, situated in the square (campo) of San Giacomo dell’Orio has had a number of renovations including a major one in 1532. The ship’s keel roof dates from the 14th century. Two of the columns were brought back from the Fourth Crusade, after the sacking of Constantinople.
San Giacomo dell’Orio was the parish church of the painter Giambattista Pittoni who was buried here in 1767.
The altarpiece is Madonna with Child and Saints (1546) by Lorenzo Lotto, the sacristy contains 12 works by Palma the Younger, painted in around 1575.
Other works are by Giovanni Buonconsiglio, Gaetano Zompini and Andrea Schiavone.
