What to see and do in St Mark's Square, Venice
SAN MARCO, VENICE
Things to see and do in San Marco
The San Marco area is the focal point of Venice, the center of it being St Mark’s Square. There’s a lot to see both in the square and the wider area.
San Marco stretches from south side of the Rialto Bridge in one direction, to the Accademia bridge and Piazzetta San Marco in the other. The Island of San Giorgio Maggiore (a short vaporetto ride from St Mark’s is also in this area but is listed seperately under Islands). The highlight of the area is undoubtedly St Mark’s Square with the Basilica, Doge’s Palace and more besides (see St Mark’s Square page).
Movies
San Marco has been the location for scenes from many movies from James Bond’s From Russia With Love, Moonraker and Casino Royale (with Daniel Craig) to The Tourist (Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie), Dangerous Beauty, The Wings of The Dove, Italian Job (re-make) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade amongst others.
