The San Marco area is the focal point of Venice, the center of it being St Mark’s Square.
All roads lead to St Mark’s Square (more or less). It’s the focal point of Venice and a must see. At first sight, St Mark’s Square can be overwhelming, so take your time and enjoy it. St Mark’s is the principal public square of Venice. Napoleon called it “the drawing room of Europe”.
San Marco stretches from south side of the Rialto Bridge in one direction, to the Accademia bridge and Piazzetta San Marco in the other.
