A Quick Guide to Exploring the Cannaregio Area of Venice

Cannaregio Art, Churches & Craftsmen

Cannaregio, near Venice train station, is the northern part of Venice. It’s a sestiere (or district) that is home to many Venetians and has less of a touristy feel to it. For a touch of the more authentic Venice, Cannaregio is the place to be.

There are a number of interesting places to see here along with some great bars and restaurants.

Cannaregio Restaurants

There are a good selection of restaurants in this area including the Al Timon steakhouse, Osteria l’Orto dei Mori which serves fish, meat and pasta dishes, Ristorante San Silvestro serving a wide variety of dishes and Osteria Ai Promessi Sposi. There are many others for you to find along the streets and beside canals.

Bars

Stroll along the canalside Fondamenta della Misericordia/Ormesini for an aperitivo in a local bar. Perhaps start with Vino Vero (which also has a bar in Lisbon) and offers ‘one of the best selections of natural wines in the world’.  Un Mondo Divino near Santa Maria Miracoli church is said to have one of the best cicchetti selections in Venice. For cocktails why not head to TiME Social Bar.

Cannaregio – things to do, sights to see
