Drinking Water in Venice
A Guide to Drinking Water in Venice
It’s very common in Italy to see people using bottled water. Venice is no different. For some people this may be due to not knowing about the water quality in Venice and Italy, for others it’s just habit or the wish to avoid having any problems with a sensitive stomach.
Tap water in Italy conforms to European Union standards and is safe to drink.
Not only that, in Venice itself there are numerous water fountains that supply fresh, clean, drinkable water where you can safely refill your water bottles.
The Venice Tap Water Organisation campaigns to make tourists to Venice more aware of this and has produced a map (below) showing all the water fountains. These are acqua potabile (drinking water).
If you see a water source that says acqua non potabile, it means that it is not drinking water.
